Water shortage due to climate variability and lack of clean water & sanitation in schools (1 toilet per 68 students in public schools) affects children’s education (~10 children walk >6 km/day during school hours to fetch water). Health situation is also difficult for girls during menstruation (48% of them miss school at this period, impacting negatively their school performance).
The project aims to strengthen children's right to education by building 2 rainwater harvesting tanks at 2 schools to ensure access to drinking water, 40 ecosan toilets (Incl. waste management) and 2 hygiene & menstruation room units. Girls to benefit also from specific sanitation & hygiene components and advocacy work to encourage them to attend school during menstruation.
