Chinantla (Northern Oaxaca) is a priority region for conservation. The forest areas comprise 248,186 ha, of which ~56,290 ha certified as Voluntary Community Conservation Areas to protect biodiversity. The NGO has worked with local authorities to protect 8,671 ha of High Evergreen Forests. Goal now to empower & enhance 3 rural communities to:

1/ Implement sustainable agricultural practices, such as agroforestry, production of 80,000 native trees & shrubs in the community greenhouse, and reforestation of 20 ha using native species

2/ Provide technology that reduces human impact on environment (Fuel-efficient stoves to lower wood consumption for cooking, home organic gardens & chickens to improve food security)

3/ Increase knowledge of forest habitat & biodiversity (Trainings of young volunteers using technological tools, radio campaign in Spanish & Chinantec languages).
