Ivory Coast: Improving living conditions of foster children in Aboisso

  • Status

    Ongoing

  • Location Ivory Coast

The Aboisso Village was built in 1983 to host children who lost parental care. These children are orphans, victims of abuse or have been abandoned by their families. The village is composed of 10 familial houses, in which the children live with their SOS mother, an educator present 24-hours a day,  seven days a week, who looks after them as a mother would.

After 33 years of intensive use, all the finishing works and fittings in the buildings have been worn out. Plumbing, electricity and roofing, all need to be renewed, as well as the entire water systems. The project's objective is to renovate and build new facilities and programmes to better fit growing needs for at-risk children and communities, and offer a holistic approach to child protection.
