India: Young Green Guardians - Students Taking the Lead in Waste Management Awareness

India generates >62 M tons of solid waste annually, with ~5 000 tons/day from Bangalore. <30% is segregated at source, leading to environmental & health hazards. The project aims to nurture student ambassadors from 20 schools & equip them with knowledge/skills on waste management, segregation & environmental sustainability:

1/ Awareness on basic waste management principles through sessions on waste segregation/reduction & sustainable living practices, as well as exposure visits to communities implementing best practices

2/ Formation of Student Committees to lead environmental campaigns in schools & communities (Monthly meetings to design materials, bi-monthly newsletter to capture activities & learnings, graduation ceremony on World Environment Day)

3/ Volunteering (3 sessions for making posters, building vermicompost pits, awareness campaigns, etc).
