France: Floating Reef

  • Status

    Ongoing

  • Location Marseille

Marseille coastal ecosystems are under constant pressure: Plastic pollution, habitat degradation & lack of public awareness on marine issues. The project aims to restore & preserve marine ecosystems around the Frioul Archipelago by combining science, civic action & awareness:

1/ Participatory scientific research through citizen science protocols with institutions (CNRS, Aix-Marseille University, etc). Trained volunteers to collect data on marine fauna & flora (Species inventories, water quality, etc)

2/ Concrete ecological actions such as underwater clean-ups, installation of artificial reefs & structures supporting habitat regeneration (Biohuts, fish nurseries), restoration of degraded areas through nature-based solutions

3/ Education & community engagement through workshops in schools, creation of interactive educational materials (Videos, field journals) and public events (Open days, conferences, outdoor screenings).
