Chile: Management Plan for the Development of Climate Shelters with an Environmental & Participatory Approach

  • Status

    Ongoing

  • Location Renca, Santiago, Metropolitan Region

Develop 2 green natural spaces (Climate shelters) in Renca to support one of the most affected communes by high temperatures & low-income, and to enhance outdoor learning opportunities. The project addresses the lack of access to safe & quality green areas in the neighborhood (4.4m² of green area/inhabitant instead of standard 9-14m²) and involves:

1/ Participatory diagnosis & design with the community (Workshops & planning), according to specific local needs

2/ Construction in degraded areas of 2 climate shelters, incl. a volunteering day (Planting, painting, etc). Priority to go to quality materials for low maintenance & vegetable species suitable to local climate, with low water requirements

3/ Environmental education activities (4 events/activities to learn about plant species & promote knowledge/care of those species)

4/ Evaluation (2 closing workshops).
