Indigenous newcomers in Edmonton have mostly no urban living experience and often accept minimum-wage work, resulting in financial issues & mental vulnerability. The project is an employment readiness initiative supporting indigenous job seekers (Youth & women) by providing:
/ Essential resources such as Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) needed for employment in industries such as construction, trades, warehousing & hospitality
/ Employment-related certifications (First Aid, WHMIS, ProServe, CSTS & other safety or industry-recognized tickets)
/ Monthly transit passes, for participants to attend interviews, work shifts & training programs
/ Employment navigation support through the New in Town Aboriginal Welcome Service to connect participants to organizations (Build networks, offer referals, etc).
