Argentina: Water for drought - self-built systems for rural families in northern Argentina

  • Status

    Ongoing

  • Location Northern Argentina

The project aims to facilitate access to safe water & generate technical capacities for self-construction of water solutions for 40 families in San Antonio Oeste, a rural community living dispersed in a territory characterised by long periods of drought (>6 months). During these dry periods, families have limited access to safe water sources (Often polluted or not accessible due to long distance) whereas they are already in a socioeconomic vulnerability.

The goal is to install rainwater harvesting & storage systems, sized so that each family accesses safe water for basic household activities during the dry season. Community trainings planned for the construction of cisterns & roofs, maintenance & repairing, and efficient water management.
